Qabiria collaborates in the preparation of a working translation ‘database’ of contemporary plays.

The initiative aims at fulfilling the following demand:

In theatre field it is particularly hard to find scripts since, especially in Spain, there is not any organization which keeps the national scene's professionals up-to-date on the developments of foreign dramaturgy. In this context it is absolutely original the idea that a group of researchers keep themselves informed on the production of plays in Europe.

Funding:

The project would be entitled to obtain funding both from the region and from the state (considering the need to set up working translations in Spanish as well).

Type of the service:

Web site in several languages, which all the Spanish and Catalan theatre sites would link to (still few compared to those in France, Germany and even Italy)

Advantages for contributors:

• It is a way of entering the theatre market as translators

• It is a way of staying informed and up-to-date on the latest European productions. The sharing with other researchers of the results of the researches gives the possibility to stage plays and playwrights still unknown in Spain.

Commitment required to contributors:

Contributors should be ready to do a remarkable quantity of working translations without remuneration for each translated text. An initial disposal of time and energy is therefore needed. Remuneration may come:

• When there is a certain volume of translated texts, and the site has been presented and appears as a link in other sites, i.e. when the initiative turns out to be useful as a reference tool to approach other countries' theatre production.
• When a translation is commissioned (for staging, publishing, etc.)

The initiative may be developed also in the field of prose literature, but with some modifications in the planning of the service (basically because prose translation requires much more time) which should aim directly at subsidies.
