e-commretail: 2nd online marketing trade fair Print
(1 vote, average 5.00 out of 5)
Written by Marco Cevoli
We recently had the opportunity to attend the first plenary conference at Webcongress and e-commretail, the online marketing and e-commerce trade fair, events that were held in parallel in Barcelona from 1 to 4 March 2011. Here you are a few remarks.

The Webcongress, defined by the organizers as "THE Internet marketing event for business" brought together 1700 participants in the plenary lectures and more than 25 workshops. This paying conference has been merged with the e-commretail, the second online marketing trade fair, which registered over 10,000 visitors attending Barcelona Trade Fair. A detailed and very critical description of some of the Webcongress conferences is available on the blog Internet Passion by Prestigia (in Spanish). Among the speeches held on March 1st the ones on the audiovisual topic by Teba Lorenzo, Yahoo! España Sales Director, and by Jaime Pelegri of YouTube are especially worthwhile. The data on video consumption on the Internet are impressive and an increasing use of this medium in the advertising is clearly foreseeable.

Another intervention that has brought interesting data about the blogosphere was that of José Fontainhas of Automattic. Fontainhas defines himself “Outernationalist” of WordPress. An impressive 8 percent of the entire Web content and more than half of top 1 million blogs, according to Alexa, are in WordPress. 13.000 are the plugins currently available, that allow to create just about anything. No coincidence that the WordPress platform covers between 60 and 80 percent of the SEO needs for a site.

The time spent walking between the stands of e-commretail and following a few conferences has left us with mixed feelings: some interventions were very well suited and motivating (see sessions by Mariano Klein or by Alex Puig), showing the extreme vitality of the online marketing industry and the wide range of possible initiatives. However, the reduced space for the exhibitors and the low-cost appearance were clear indicators of a general lack of funds and cheap organisation. In any case, we are confident that the contacts established throughout the event will be successful and recommend to those who work mainly on the Internet not to miss next edition.
